" What does Bessie say I have done?" I asked. "Jane, i don't like cavillers or questioners: besides, there is something truly forbidding in a child taking up her elders in that manner. Be seated somewhere; and until you can speak pleasantly, remain silent." Page 9
- I kinda want to know who the elder is to Jane. I know that if someone talked to me that way after I had asked a simple question I would be very upset. Why doesn't she allow Jane to talk or to participate in the "family time". And why is Jane there in the first place? If the lady dislikes Jane so much and she did something so horrible then why does she allow Jane to live ther? Where are her parents? And i want to know how exactly she talks to Jane, like is it supposed to sound? Because when I read the I take it as down, through the nose kind of an attitude and thats kinda rude and mean to be talking to a child that way.
